Squirrels is our Key Stage 1 class for children in years 1 and 2.

We enjoy a creative approach to our learning where all of the children’s needs are catered for.

In Squirrels class children begin to develop the skill of working independently and children are encouraged to find things out for themselves and to challenge and extend their ideas.

The children learn through a range of hands on, practical tasks as well as more formal written activities. We link our learning objectives to our high quality termly themes and the children immerse themselves in their learning.

Some important information:

Learning Logs are sent home every Friday and are due in the following Wednesday.

Spellings are sent home on a Friday. Spelling books are due back on the following Wednesday and the children are tested on the Friday using the Spelling Bee Scheme.

Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school which includes warm and sensible footwear as the weather begins to get colder. Your child also needs waterproof trousers, wellington boots and a warm coat for all outdoor learning lessons. (Thursday afternoons).

Our Autumn term topic is ‘Woodland Wander’ ┬áThis topic is science based and the children will be learning about ‘Living things and their Habitats.’ Linked to our new outdoor learning the children have been investigating mini-beasts and their habitats. The children have designed a bug hotel and the class have been collecting materials to make their own ‘Bug Hotel’ in the school grounds!

During the term the children will also be learning about a range of woodland animals and their habitats. The project for half term will be to ‘make a woodland animal habitat.’ These will form a display for all the children and visitors to see.
