Squirrels is our Key Stage 1 class for children in years 1 and 2.

We enjoy a creative approach to our learning where all of the children’s needs are catered for.

In Squirrels class children begin to develop the skill of working independently and children are encouraged to find things out for themselves and to challenge and extend their ideas.

The children learn through a range of hands on, practical tasks as well as more formal written activities. We link our learning objectives to our high quality termly themes and the children immerse themselves in their learning.

Some important information:

Learning Logs are sent home every Friday and are due in the following Wednesday.

Spellings are sent home on a Friday and the children are tested the following Friday using the Spelling Bee Scheme.

Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school which includes warm and sensible footwear as the weather begins to get colder.

This term our topic is ‘Tales of the Riverbank’  This topic is heavily science based and our stunning start is learning all about life cycles of animals and understanding that all animals have offspring. To ‘kick start’ our topic we had a delivery on Monday morning of 10 living eggs! The eggs are ready to hatch and the children will be able to use their observational skills over the coming weeks to see new life entering the world. (Pictures to follow soon!) The children will be learning about the life cycle of a hen as well as a variety of riverbank animals. In Literacy we have been learning the story of ‘Wind in the Willows’

We have a fun and exciting term ahead of us!
